EFE.- The COVID-19 epidemic in Mexico is at its lowest level since the health emergency began two years ago, Hugo Lopez Gatell, undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for Prevention and Health Promotion said on Tuesday.
“All indicators are at their lowest levels since the beginning of the epidemic,” the official said during a morning press conference from the National Palace.
The Undersecretary reported that there have already been eight consecutive weeks of decline in the COVID-19 pandemic.

While acknowledging that this case is under low transmission conditions, he said it would definitely reach a “point of minimal activity that will last for several weeks”.
He explained that to the extent that there is epidemiological activity in other parts of the world, there is a possibility that there will also be a reactivation of transmission in the Americas region.
Nationally, the official stated, the average occupancy of general beds in Mexican hospitals is 7% and the average occupancy of beds in intensive care is 5%, with a declining trend.
In addition, he noted that last week there was a 97% decrease in hospital occupancy, while deaths showed a 96% decrease.

He explained that one of the critical elements that affected the reduction of the epidemic indicators is related to vaccination, as more than 188.53 million doses have been applied so far with coverage of 90%, and he did not rule out the continued presence of people who were not vaccinated and looking for the antigen.
He pointed out that 87% of the total population in the range to be vaccinated already has a full vaccination schedule, while all states of the country during this week remain in a green traffic light, that is, the minimum risk of infection.
Mexico has so far had more than 5.6 million cases and a backlog of 322,107 deaths due to Covid-19.
