welcome all! We’re very excited to announce that we’ve added some interesting new data to the platform: Nasdaq retail activity. Details after the jump!
Wouldn’t it be great to be able to easily visualize the amount of retail trading activity that occurs in any given name on any given day? Well, now you can with the new Nasdaq Retail Trader Activity indicator.
How do we define the activity of retailers
We define ‘Retail Traders Activity’ as the share of volume traded by retail traders on a particular bar on a specific date versus the total volume traded by all retail traders across all indices on the same date. The purpose of this data is to provide us with a measure of the lion’s share of the eyes of retail traders (and trades) at any given time.
Add the indicator to your charts
You can enable this indicator on your charts using the “Other data” menu in the top toolbar. Click Other Data and enable Percentage of Retailers Activity. The data will be presented under the lower indicator at the bottom of your charts.
How to read the indicator
As mentioned above, the data will be displayed as a simple line graph under a low indicator. The value for each particular day (it is better to view this indicator on the daily time frame) represents the percentage of the total retail trading volume that has received a given name.
In the image below we see 3.68% in the upper left corner. This means that 3.68% of all retail trade on this particular day was by that name. Of course, the higher this number, the more retail traders will trade it.
Retailer Activity Watch Lists
In addition to being able to display this data as a line graph on any stock or ETF, it is also used to populate the common “Top traded” watchlists and all users can access these watchlists. As you can see in the image below, we offer several “Top Traded” watch list options. These lists contain the top 10 most traded names (in percentage) for each of the past seven days, and the symbols are listed in order from the most traded name, down. To access these lists, simply add a Watchlist or Scanner via the Sidebar button, then search for Retail in the search bar and select the list you wish to see.
Users can also use these watchlists within the scanner, turning the appearance of a cursor in one of these lists into a requirement for scanning. For example, you can determine the indicator’s appearance in the list of top traders for the past 3 days using the criteria shown in the image below.
We hope you find this new data useful, and we look forward to expanding on it in the future!
